Thank you Anonymous!
My latest project has been an 1850’s flounced sheer dress. Each flounced tier is scalloped and the scallops are all hand-pinked. The basic pattern I used was Laughing Moon #111. The fabric used is a sheer white dotted swiss (the dots are yellow) and it is trimmed with a cream and yellow striped, pleated silk taffeta. I realize now that the trim is a little crooked and needs adjustment, but that is hardly the end of the world.
The buttons are vintage crochet buttons that I found in a thrift store, and the button-holes are hand-worked (I think I’m finally getting the hang of it!)
The pictures look a little funny because I had to up the contrast and lower the brightness in order to get the details to show up what with all of the white on white I have going on.
As you can see, I am not quite finished - I still need to hem the underskirt and sew some hooks and eyes into the bodice to control various gaps. I also need to make an embroidered collar and embroidered under-sleeves to go with the dress, but it is perfectly wearable without.
Better pictures will hopefully follow!
In my last post I had a list of works in progress and I am happy to announce that I have complete the following:
- Finished my costume for the Fairytale Town Moonlit Ball
- Finished my 1850’s sheer flounced dress.
- Made significant progress on the 1860’s ballgown I am making for Romini - it will definitely be finished by the Gasskell’s Ball.
I have also acquired black wool crepe for an 1860’s mourning dress I am planning on making for the Funeral procession that will be held during the Gold Rush Days.
